The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the sum of ₦1.968 billion for the payment of examination fees for students in public basic and secondary schools across the state, Governor Umo Eno has announced.

According to the governor, the approval includes ₦1.368 billion for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and related expenses, ₦50 million for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and ₦550 million to cover the Common Entrance Examination, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), promotion examinations, and entrance examinations into the state’s specialised schools.

Governor Eno said the latest approval, combined with the ₦1.3 billion already committed to the 2025/2026 bursary scheme, brings his administration’s total recent investment in education to over ₦3.2 billion.

He stated that the investment underscores the government’s commitment to providing free and compulsory education while ensuring that no child in Akwa Ibom is denied access to learning because of financial constraints.

“Our administration remains committed to free and compulsory education and to ensuring that no Akwa Ibom child is denied an opportunity to learn because of financial difficulty,” the governor said.
