The Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC) has announced renowned conference speaker and governance advocate, Charles Apoki, as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series.
Chairman of the Board, Abraham Ogbodo, made the announcement in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Shedrack Onitsha. According to the statement, the selection of Dr. Apoki followed a rigorous search process aimed at identifying a speaker whose expertise aligns with the vision of the 2026 lecture.
The statement noted that the ALSBC was pleased to present Dr. Apoki, an international conference speaker and advocate of good governance, as the keynote speaker for the event.
Dr. Apoki is expected to deliver a paper titled “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria.” His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring experts drawn from the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations who will further interrogate the issues raised during the lecture.
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wetland Hotel.
According to the organisers, this year’s lecture will examine the widening gap between electoral success and effective governance in Nigeria. The discussion will explore how electoral victories often translate into systems of patronage rather than accountable leadership.
The forum will also analyse the impact of political godfatherism, weak institutional oversight and the monetisation of politics on Nigeria’s democratic process. Participants are expected to propose practical reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in elections and aligning democratic mandates with service delivery and national development.
Dr. Apoki is a graduate of the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree in 1984, and he also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Beyond medicine, he is an ordained clergyman and a respected conference speaker who has addressed audiences across several denominations and professional platforms.
He has travelled widely across Africa and Europe as part of his ministry, delivering teachings focused on leadership, personal development and societal transformation. He is also the convener of the Word and Wisdom Conference, a leadership and capacity-building platform that brings together pastors, church leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals.
In addition, Dr. Apoki is the proprietor of Petra Christian Academy, an educational institution providing nursery, primary and secondary education in Nigeria. He is also known for his work as a marriage counsellor.
The statement was signed by Mr. Shedrack Onitsha, Secretary of the Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC).
