Christians have been reminded of the need for constant self-examination and steadfastness in faith, as believers prepare to give an account of their lives before God.

This solemn admonition was given by Rev. Fr. Phillip Obewha during the Funeral Mass of late Mr. Simon Ogbokor Agumuete Ogoji, who passed on at the age of 71. The Mass was held today at Ibrede, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

In his homily, Fr. Obewha urged Christians to live upright lives, noting that earthly life is a temporary journey and a preparation for eternity. He reminded the faithful that repentance must be embraced while one is alive, stressing that “there is no repentance in the grave; the soul that sins shall die.”

Praying fervently for the repose of the soul of the departed, the priest commended late Mr. Simon Ogbokor Agumuete Ogoji to the mercy of Almighty and Eternal God, saying that he had completed his earthly sojourn and would give an account of his life before God on the day of resurrection.

Fr. Obewha further consoled the bereaved family and the Christian community with words of hope drawn from the Scriptures, declaring that “Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life, and whoever believes in Him shall not die eternally.”

The Funeral Mass climaxed with the celebration of the Holy Communion, offered for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed.

Vincent Okoji, younger brother of late Simon Agumuete gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the deceased.

Late Mr. Simon Ogbokor Agumuete Ogoji was subsequently laid to rest in his hometown of Ibrede, according to family traditions and Christian rites, amid prayers, hymns, and tributes celebrating a life entrusted back to God.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
