Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Monday hosted a high-level delegation at the Government House in Yenagoa, urging greater unity among the Ijaw people.
The delegation included the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas; High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo; Engr. Kestin Pondi; Hon. Julius Pondi; Joshua Machaiver; Pastor Ruben Wilson; and Mr. Paul Eris (Ogunbos), among other stakeholders.
Governor Diri received the visitors alongside his deputy, Peter Akpe; Acting Chief of Staff, Irorodamie Komonibo; APC State Chairman, Warman Ogoriba; Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency I, Felix Bonny Ayah; Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah; Commissioner for Transport, Preye Brodrick; and other top government officials.
Speaking during the visit, Diri underscored the need for sustained unity, solidarity, and brotherhood among Ijaw people, irrespective of political or ideological differences.
“I appreciate my brother governor from Taraba State and my kinsmen for this visit. It underscores the importance of strengthening our bond of brotherhood from time to time for the continuity of our shared heritage as Ijaw people,” the governor said.
He described the visit as a demonstration of enduring kinship and mutual respect among leaders, noting that such engagements are vital for fostering collaboration within and beyond the region.
The meeting is widely viewed as a significant step toward reinforcing relationships among key political and community figures, while promoting cohesion among the Ijaw nation.
