As the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise enters its final phase, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo State, Mr. Obo Effanga, has intensified efforts to mobilise eligible voters through a strategic public sensitisation campaign across key locations in Benin City.
The outreach, conducted on Thursday, June 26, was led by the REC alongside officials of the Voter Education and Publicity (VEP) Department as part of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) drive to boost participation before the registration exercise closes.
The sensitisation campaign began at the busy Third East Circular Market, where traders, commuters and residents were educated on the importance of registering to vote and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The team later moved through major routes leading to Upper Sakponba, engaging members of the public and encouraging all eligible but unregistered citizens to take advantage of the remaining registration period.
Speaking during the exercise, Effanga stressed the urgency of the ongoing registration, noting that the opportunity would soon come to an end.
He described the Permanent Voter Card as an essential instrument for civic participation and urged residents who are yet to register to do so without delay.
The REC also guided prospective registrants on the registration process and directed them to designated registration centres to ensure a seamless enrolment experience.
According to the Commission, the outreach is part of efforts to conclude the final phase of the CVR exercise successfully by ensuring that no eligible voter is left out due to inadequate information or awareness.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a credible, inclusive and transparent electoral process through sustained voter education and public engagement across Edo State.
