Edo State University, Iyamho marked a significant milestone on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as it conferred degrees on 850 graduates during its 7th Convocation Ceremony. The graduating class comprised 693 undergraduates and 157 postgraduates, with an impressive 72 students earning first-class honours.
The ceremony attracted distinguished guests, including the Executive Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, who was represented by Prof. Philip Afaha, Special Adviser on Policy and Strategy. The event was formally declared open by the Pro-Chancellor, Olusegun Akinyinka.
In his address, Prof. Akinyinka commended the state government for its continued support of the university’s development. He congratulated the graduating students, describing the occasion as a celebration of resilience, vision, and the fulfillment of academic aspirations. He emphasized that the degrees awarded symbolized not only intellectual achievement but also character and excellence, urging graduates to see the moment as the start of a new phase filled with purpose and determination.

The Vice-Chancellor, Victor O. Adetimirin, also expressed appreciation to the state government for fostering an enabling environment that has allowed the institution to thrive. He encouraged the graduates to pursue impactful and successful careers, expressing optimism about their future contributions to society.
Highlights of the ceremony included the recognition of outstanding academic performance. Daniel Ranti Adio of the Department of Civil Engineering emerged as the overall best graduating student, earning a cash prize of one million naira after achieving an exceptional CGPA of 4.94.
The event drew attendance from traditional rulers, parents, academic staff, and students, all gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class.
