The Ebonyi State Police Command has disclosed that the family of Mary Habila, the nurse who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declined to consent to an autopsy on her body.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Thursday. He said the police had concluded arrangements to engage the services of a qualified pathologist to conduct a post-mortem examination as part of ongoing efforts to determine the cause of Habila’s death.

According to Ukandu, despite the police’s readiness to carry out the autopsy, the deceased’s family has indicated that it does not want the procedure to be conducted.

He added that the police remain committed to a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death and will continue to follow due process in handling the case.

Mary Habila reportedly died at the residence of the Minister of Works, a development that has attracted public attention and prompted an official police investigation.
