The Federal Government, alongside key stakeholders, has announced a total donation of ₦65 billion to support the newly launched Community Food Bank Trust Fund.

The fund was unveiled on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who also inaugurated the Board of Trustees of the initiative.

Major contributors to the fund include the Federal Government, the Nigeria Governors Forum, Dangote Group, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, and the Emeka Foundation.

Speaking at the launch, Senator Tinubu said the initiative is designed to reach 500,000 households nationwide within its first year, with a strong focus on tackling child malnutrition.

She described malnutrition as a critical national challenge, noting that millions of Nigerian children lack access to adequate and nutritious food necessary for proper growth and development.

According to the First Lady, the Community Food Bank Programme was conceived as a sustainable intervention aimed at providing vulnerable children under the age of six with access to healthy meals, while also strengthening community-based nutrition systems.

“Each day of inaction affects the health, growth, potential, and future of our children. Addressing malnutrition is both urgent and essential to securing the future of our nation,” she stated.

She further explained that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises food security and the welfare of Nigerian citizens, particularly children.

The Community Food Bank Trust Fund is expected to serve as a long-term solution to improve nutrition, reduce hunger, and restore hope among vulnerable populations across the country.
