“He Speaks Like a Statesman” — Nigerians Praise Oshiomhole Over Senate President Question

Reactions have continued to trail the response of former Edo State governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, after he was asked during an interview on Channels Television whether he intends to become Senate President.

The question, posed by Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye, sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising Oshiomhole’s response as intelligent, mature and politically disciplined.

Several supporters described the former labour leader as one of the few politicians who still connect with the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

“Once a comrade, forever a comrade in conscience, spirit and character,” one commenter wrote. “No matter how badly Nigerians may view the Senate, people like Oshiomhole, Ndume and Ningi still represent hope for the common man.”

Others commended the senator for refusing to make premature political declarations, unlike many politicians who openly discuss electoral victories long before elections are conducted.

“This man is highly intelligent,” another supporter stated. “Ask some politicians the same question and they will immediately start talking about millions of votes and guaranteed victory. But Oshiomhole approached it with wisdom and restraint.”

Many of the reactions also highlighted Oshiomhole’s political journey and leadership experience, citing his past roles as president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), governor of Edo State, and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to supporters, his experience places him among the most qualified politicians for higher leadership positions in the country.

“If there is anyone who deserves to contest for Senate President, he should be among the top names,” a supporter said. “With his background and leadership experience, he can even contest for the presidency.”

Some commenters also praised what they described as Oshiomhole’s principled approach to politics.

“Talking about an election that is still a year away and yet to go through constitutional processes is like taking Nigerians for granted,” one reaction read. “This is what many politicians do — planning ahead as if they own tomorrow.”

Others described the senator as “consciously smart, intentionally principled and unarguably intelligent,” while some argued that no president of the Nigeria Labour Congress after Oshiomhole has commanded the same level of national influence.

The reactions continue to fuel conversations around leadership, political maturity and the future of the Nigerian Senate ahead of the country’s next political cycle.
