ABUJA — The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has pledged to personally advocate for improved welfare for retired police officers, placing pension and gratuity reforms at the top of the Nigeria Police Force’s priorities.

Disu made this known during a meeting with a delegation of retired officers, where longstanding concerns over pensions and salaries were extensively discussed. He acknowledged the persistent challenges affecting retirees and assured them of his administration’s commitment to pursuing sustainable solutions.

The police chief urged patience among retirees, noting that efforts to resolve the issues would require careful navigation of administrative and legislative processes.

As part of a new approach to addressing their grievances, Disu outlined two key measures. He encouraged retirees to submit formal petitions directly to his office, promising to personally present their concerns to Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support advocacy for the signing of the pension reform bill.

In addition, he assured retirees of their right to peaceful protest, stating that the Force would provide adequate security should they choose to organise lawful demonstrations to press their demands.

In a further gesture aimed at supporting police families, the IGP announced plans to work with relevant departments to create better employment opportunities for children of retired officers during future recruitment exercises.

Reaffirming his commitment, Disu stressed that the welfare, dignity, and financial security of retired personnel remain a priority for the Force, even after officers leave active service.
