In a World of Infidelity, Aregbesola Says He Has Stayed Faithful to His Wife

Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has opened up about his marriage and personal commitment to fidelity, saying he has never slept with another woman since marrying his wife, Sherifat.

Aregbesola made the disclosure while speaking at a recent ADC rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area, as the party continued its activities ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election.

The former governor said his decision to remain faithful to his wife was not merely about marital obligation but a personal test he had set for himself. According to him, his devotion and ultimate commitment are to God.

His comments come at a time when infidelity remains a subject of intense public discussion, particularly in societies where prominent figures are often expected to serve as examples of moral and personal responsibility.

Political and religious leaders, because of the influence they wield over their followers and communities, frequently face heightened scrutiny over their private conduct. While allegations of extramarital affairs involving public figures often make headlines, Aregbesola’s statement presents a different narrative—one centred on self-discipline, marriage and personal conviction.

By publicly speaking about his fidelity, Aregbesola has placed his long-standing marriage under the spotlight and offered what he described as evidence of a personal standard he has chosen to uphold.

Beyond the political gathering, his remarks are likely to generate conversation about commitment in marriage, especially at a time when infidelity and marital breakdown continue to attract considerable attention in public discourse.

For Aregbesola, however, the issue appears to go beyond public perception. He presented faithfulness to his wife as a personal challenge and a reflection of his devotion to God.
