A legal practitioner, Ekene Aninze, Esq., has criticized the three senators representing Delta State in the National Assembly over what he described as their failure to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of key federal roads in the state.
In a statement, Aninze said he was particularly concerned that Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas (Delta South), Ede Dafinone (Delta Central) and Ned Nwoko (Delta North) had allegedly remained silent on the poor state of the Benin-Delta federal highway until recent public outcries by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
According to him, the condition of the Warri-Benin Road and the Abraka-Benin Road directly affects communities within Senator Dafinone’s constituency, yet he has not raised the issue on the floor of the Senate.
Aninze also questioned Senator Ned Nwoko’s silence over the condition of the Asaba-Benin Road, noting that the senator frequently uses the route while traveling to his hometown.
He argued that despite the strategic importance of the road to residents and commuters, the issue has not received sufficient legislative attention from the senator.
The lawyer further alleged that Senator Nwoko has devoted more public attention to advocating for the creation of Anioma State and pushing for social media companies such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and TikTok to establish physical offices in Nigeria than to pressing infrastructure concerns affecting his constituents.
Aninze called on the lawmakers representing Delta State to give greater priority to addressing the deplorable state of federal roads in the state, stressing that improving critical infrastructure should remain a major focus of legislative representation.
