The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is facing a significant manpower shortfall as it prepares to assume a broader role in providing protection for Very Important Persons (VIPs). This development follows the recent withdrawal of 11,566 police officers from escort and personal security duties nationwide.
The new responsibility places additional pressure on the NSCDC, which is now assessing its operational capacity and personnel strength to ensure a smooth transition.
Officials say the Corps may need to accelerate recruitment, redeploy staff, and enhance training programs to meet the demands of the expanded assignment.
Security analysts have noted that while the shift aligns with efforts to strengthen core policing functions, the NSCDC must receive adequate support to avoid overstretching its workforce and compromising effectiveness.
