Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled members he described as “vagabonds,” insisting that such elements no longer have control or influence within the party.
Makinde made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly constructed PDP Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to the governor, the individuals he referred to as “vagabonds” were formally expelled from the party in November 2025, following prolonged internal crises and legal disputes that had plagued the PDP.
Speaking metaphorically, Makinde said internal disorder within a political organisation often stems from unchecked elements.
“In Yorubaland, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” he said.
He added that those responsible for instability within the PDP had already exhausted their influence.
“The vagabond in PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time, and for 10 years — a whole decade — they practised their ‘vagabondcy’ in the PDP,” Makinde stated.
The governor stressed that the party has now taken decisive steps to restore internal discipline, unity, and focus, noting that the expulsion of the affected members marks a turning point in resolving the party’s leadership and legal challenges.
Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the PDP and repositioning it as a credible political force, adding that the party would no longer tolerate actions capable of undermining its stability.
