The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have agreed to deepen their collaboration to ensure a more seamless mobilisation process for prospective Corps Members.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, stated this when he received the JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Segun Aina, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Nafiu described JAMB as a strategic partner in the NYSC mobilisation process, noting that the examination body provides the primary data required for the online registration of prospective Corps Members.

The NYSC boss commended JAMB for its support over the years, particularly its seamless application programming interface (API) data-sharing arrangement with the Scheme.

“We thank the Management of JAMB for their support over the years. We believe so much in the credibility of JAMB, and we have enjoyed seamless API data sharing with JAMB,” Nafiu said.

He also congratulated Aina on his appointment as JAMB Registrar, noting that his previous experience as a Corps Member who served with JAMB, combined with his professional background, would contribute to his success in the new position.

In his remarks, Aina called for stronger collaboration between the two organisations to improve the services provided by Corps Members and enhance their overall service experience.

The JAMB Registrar said his own experience as a Corps Member had played a significant role in shaping his career and preparing him for his current responsibilities.

Aina also disclosed that JAMB would maintain strict standards regarding requests for changes to candidates’ data, while allowing flexibility in genuinely exceptional cases arising from the NYSC mobilisation process.

He stressed that such flexibility would not compromise the integrity and reliability of JAMB’s records.

The Registrar further revealed that a new framework involving NYSC, JAMB and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would soon be introduced to make the process of effecting legitimate data changes more seamless.

Aina also requested that Corps Members be deployed to JAMB offices to serve as customer service representatives, saying their involvement would help the organisation communicate more effectively with young Nigerians.

“We want to speak directly to the young people, we want to speak the language of young people, and we need other young people to help us do it,” he said.

He added: “We want to build an army of customer service representatives by using Corps Members.”

The proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen data management, improve communication with prospective Corps Members and further enhance efficiency in the NYSC mobilisation process.
