The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent brutal terrorist attacks and killings in Plateau State.

The Conference Chairman, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor in a statement, expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of lives, mass displacement, and emotional trauma inflicted on citizens by the escalating violence.

Guwor in the statement, made available to newsmen by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, acknowledged the federal government’s role in national security but stressed that other critical stakeholders must act to contain the violence.

Stressing that the safety and dignity of every Nigerian must be the top priority of government, the Conference Chairman called for improved coordination between federal and state forces, with greater use of local intelligence.

Rt Hon Guwor who is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, maintained that the security and welfare of the people is not negotiable, saying that targeted Interventions would cushion the negative effects of the worrisome situation.

The Conference Chairman sympathized with victims of the carnage in Plateau state and urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, security forces, and community leaders, to work together to restore peace and security in the affected areas.

Guwor pledged the Conference’s commitment to continue to support laws that promote peace, security, justice and inclusive governance across the country.
