The Nigeria Police Force has announced a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive prohibiting the deployment of police personnel for VIP escort and guard duties.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on December 6, 2025, the Force Headquarters set up a special enforcement team to ensure strict adherence to the presidential order. The team embarked on a large-scale monitoring exercise across Lagos State beginning at about 10:00 a.m.
Key locations inspected included the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points across the state.

The monitoring exercise revealed that officers complied fully with the new directive, with no incidents of unauthorized police escorts recorded. As a result, no arrests were made.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fully implementing the presidential directive. He emphasized that redeploying officers from VIP duties to core policing roles would strengthen security operations, enhance crime prevention efforts, and improve the protection of lives and property nationwide.
The Nigeria Police Force assured the public that enforcement of the policy would continue across the country “without fear or favour.” The statement also called for citizens’ support as the Force advances toward a more professional, efficient, and people-centered policing system.
