Nigeria’s House of Representatives has strongly cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against engaging in negotiations with armed bandit groups. Lawmakers warned that adopting dialogue as a security strategy risks encouraging further violence rather than ending it.

During deliberations, members of the House condemned any form of negotiation with criminal groups, arguing that such engagements could embolden bandits, undermine national security efforts, and send the wrong message to communities affected by insecurity.

They stressed that the government must prioritize decisive security action, improved intelligence gathering, and strengthened protection for vulnerable communities.

The lawmakers further urged the Federal Government to intensify coordinated operations across security agencies and ensure that perpetrators of violent attacks are brought to justice.
