Founder and President of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has urged Christians to guard their hearts against bitterness, warning that it destroys the carrier long before it affects the offender.
Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration of Daystar Christian Centre in Oregun, Lagos, the bishop noted that bitterness hinders spiritual growth and deprives believers of access to God’s ways.
His admonition comes amid heightened religious tension in the country, following the recent declaration of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by U.S. President Donald Trump. The designation has sparked strong reactions among Christian and Muslim groups, raising fresh debates about interfaith relations, governance, and national stability.
Preaching on the theme “Accessing the Ways of God” and referencing Psalm 103:7, Oyedepo emphasized that salvation opens the door to divine guidance.
He said: “Don’t harbour bitterness. It doesn’t trouble the person but you. Anybody who got anything wrong did not do so deliberately. New birth is the gateway to His ways. When you are saved, God’s love comes alive in you. If you are saved, the peace of God will calm you in the midst of the storm. I have never had one sleepless night since Jesus called me into ministry.”
Oyedepo added that the fear of God is fundamental to accessing divine wisdom, noting that right standing with God naturally produces right living.
The cleric also underscored the importance of joy and generosity, urging believers to cultivate both as spiritual virtues that unlock divine favor.
The anniversary celebration, themed “A Mosaic of Changed Life: Celebrating 30 Years of Impact,” drew prominent ministers and gospel personalities from across the country.
Among them were the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Lagos, Pastor Yemi David; gospel music minister Dunsin Oyekan; founder of Global Harvest Church, Rev. Victor Adeyemi; Senior Pastor of Triumphant Christian Centre, Rev. Samuel Olubiyo; Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Jimmy Odukoya; and Co-Pastor of House On The Rock and founder of Woman to Woman Ministry, Pastor Ifeanyi Adefarasin.
Ministers from within and outside Lagos also graced the occasion as Daystar marked three decades of ministry impact.
