Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the president is working to protect Nigeria’s interests across all sectors.
Gowon made the remark on Saturday after paying a courtesy visit to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the former military leader said his visit was to appreciate the president for what he described as the administration’s efforts in addressing the country’s challenges.
“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country,” Gowon said.
He noted that the president is making progress in different areas, including political, economic and social development.
“We had to look at all the good work that the President is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise,” he said.
“Isn’t he doing the best he can all round? So, there is no particular area. Every other area — political, economic, social, etc, he’s doing well.”
The former head of state, however, acknowledged that security remains a major challenge facing the country but expressed confidence that the president is making efforts to address the situation.
“Of course, the major problem that we have today is security, and he is doing everything to deal with those challenges for the good of all Nigerians,” Gowon added.
“He’s looking after the interests of Nigeria in all areas, and I’m happy about that.”
Gowon also called on Nigerians to remain patient and support the government in its efforts to restore stability and national unity.
