The United States has confirmed the delivery of military supplies to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing security and counterterrorism operations in the country.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a post shared on X. According to AFRICOM, the supplies are intended to strengthen Nigeria’s operational capacity in addressing security challenges and form part of broader efforts to enhance cooperation between the United States and its regional partners in West Africa.
The development comes amid heightened security activity in the region. U.S. authorities have previously stated that American forces carried out air operations targeting extremist groups linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), with U.S. President Donald Trump warning that further action could be taken against armed groups accused of targeting civilians, including Christian communities.
In October 2025, the Trump administration designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” under U.S. religious freedom laws, citing allegations of widespread violations. Trump has publicly criticized the Nigerian government over insecurity and warned that the United States could consider additional measures if the situation persists.
AFRICOM emphasized that the latest delivery is focused on supporting Nigeria’s security forces in counterterrorism and stability operations, while reinforcing long-standing military cooperation between both countries.
