BENIN CITY, Edo State — Concerned indigenes, parents and residents of Uokha Community in Edo State have appealed to the state government for the urgent rehabilitation and renovation of Uokha Grammar School.
The appeal was contained in an open letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Edo State, in which Fred Oarhe, a concerned son of Uokha Community, drew attention to what he described as the deteriorating condition of the school and the need for immediate government intervention.
According to Oarhe, Uokha Grammar School has played an important role in the educational development of the community and has contributed to the upbringing and education of generations of young people.
He expressed concern over the condition of the school’s facilities, arguing that the current state of the learning environment raises questions about the quality of facilities available to students and teachers.
Oarhe appealed to the Edo State Government to consider the school for comprehensive rehabilitation, including the renovation of dilapidated classroom blocks, provision of adequate furniture, improvement of the school environment and rehabilitation of other essential facilities.
He said the proposed intervention would help provide students and teachers with a safer and more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“Education remains one of the strongest investments any government can make in the future of its people,” Oarhe said in the appeal, stressing that children in Uokha and neighbouring communities deserve access to decent educational facilities.
While acknowledging the efforts of the Edo State Government in the education sector, Oarhe urged the administration to give Uokha Grammar School special consideration for immediate intervention.
He said the appeal was not simply about renovating school buildings, but about restoring hope, dignity and educational opportunities for children in the community.
The community representative expressed confidence that the state government would consider the appeal and take the necessary steps to restore the school to a standard that would meet the expectations of the people of Uokha.
He also called for a positive response and meaningful intervention from the government.
