Social media personality and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkBlackMan, has revealed details of his recent visit to the Defence Headquarters Complex in Abuja, where he used the opportunity to speak on insecurity, justice, and the relationship between the military and civilians.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, VeryDarkBlackMan stated that although the invitation by Major General M.E. Onoja was not initially intended to be a media event, the gathering eventually attracted public attention, prompting him to address several pressing national concerns.
According to him, he raised issues surrounding what he described as “justice cracks” in the system, including concerns over the Ekpoma killing in Edo State. He also stressed the urgent need for stronger collaboration and trust between the Nigerian military and ordinary citizens.
The activist emphasized that security agencies must build closer relationships with local communities rather than creating fear among the people. He noted that valuable intelligence capable of tackling insecurity can only be obtained when residents feel safe, respected, and willing to cooperate with security operatives.
VeryDarkBlackMan further explained that his remarks were largely impromptu, as the event was not planned for media engagement, but he felt compelled to speak on issues affecting Nigerians whenever the opportunity presented itself.
“The military needs to get closer to the people instead of always scaring them. Intelligence about insecurity can be gotten from locals when there is trust and cooperation,” he stated.
The development has since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the activist for using the platform to advocate for improved security engagement and justice-related concerns.
