The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education has lauded key stakeholders in the State’s education sector for their sustained commitment to promoting quality teaching and learning across all levels.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Charles Emetulu, gave the commendation shortly after Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the education sector appeared before the committee to defend their proposed 2026 budget estimates at the Assembly Complex in Asaba.

Hon. Emetulu noted with satisfaction that the Ministries of Education alongside the various institutions and education boards have recorded remarkable improvements in performance over the past year.

The lawmaker, who represents Ndokwa West Constituency, emphasized that Delta State remains one of the few states in Nigeria with a notably high number of higher institutions and expressed happiness that they are all doing well.

Emetulu urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts to maintain and expand the State’s growing reputation as an emerging education hub in Africa.

Speaking with newsmen, Hon. Emetulu acknowledged that despite the progress recorded, more still needs to be done especially in addressing challenges confronting the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB).

He expressed confidence that ongoing interventions would soon resolve the lingering issues to ensure smoother operations in the sector in the coming year.

The Committee Chairman, flanked by members of the Education Committee including Hon. Benson Obire, Hon. Matthew Omonade, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. (Dr.) Ferguson Onwo, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, and Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, commended the dedication of all key players working tirelessly to enhance access to quality education for Deltans.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerovwo Tonukari, along with heads of tertiary institutions and chairmen of education boards, outlined the challenges encountered during the outgoing year.

They however expressed optimism that these challenges would be surmounted as the State advances into the 2026 fiscal year with renewed strategies and strengthened partnerships.

The Committee assured of continuous legislative support aimed at ensuring that Delta State remains at the forefront of educational development in Nigeria.
