Budget Defence: Utuama Highlights Above‑Average 2025 Oil‑Gas Performance, Seeks More

Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Oil and Gas has called on the Ministry of Oil and Gas to step up its performance in the 2026 fiscal year.

 

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Festus Utuama, made the call when the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Hon Peter Uviejitobor led other officials to defend its 2026 budget estimates.

Hon Utuama noted that the call became necessary to further strengthen the State’s economic growth and scale up revenue prospects.

 

Hon. Utuama commended the ministry’s delegation for their efforts in stabilizing the oil sector in the state, noting that the ministry performed above average in the outgoing year.

He however stressed that the sector holds vast potential for even greater achievements if current efforts are intensified.

 

Utuama reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that the oil and gas sector contributes more robustly to the State’s development in line with global best practices.

According to him, sustained collaboration, improved strategy implementation, and strengthened regulatory engagement will be key to achieving heightened performance in the coming year.

 

Responding, the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Peter Uviejotobor, assured the committee that the ministry is fully prepared to deliver an improved performance in 2026.

Uviejitobor reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to partnering with the legislature for the necessary policy and legislative backing required to reposition the industry.

 

The two termed member of the State Assembly who represented Udu Constituency, added that the ministry will intensify engagements with critical stakeholders across the oil and gas value chain to actualize the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,

Uviejitobor said some of the areas of emphasis include environmental sustainability, community relations, investment attraction and sectoral efficiency.

He emphasized that with renewed focus and stronger collaboration, the oil and gas sector would continue to play a pivotal role in driving Delta State’s economic ambitions.

 

The Commissioner was accompanied by top management team of the Ministry.
