The Edo State House of Assembly has received a formal request from the state’s Executive arm to investigate two major projects initiated by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration — the Radisson Hotel and the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA).
The projects, located at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) and along Sapele Road in Benin City respectively, have drawn the attention of the government, prompting a directive for legislative oversight.
The letter, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, was read on the floor of the House on Monday by the Clerk, Audu Omogbai.
Following the reading, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, announced plans to constitute an ad hoc committee at the next sitting to conduct a detailed investigation into the two projects. Agbebaku said,
“We have received a letter from the state government concerning the request to probe MOWAA and the Radisson Blu Hotel. An ad hoc committee will be set up at our next sitting to carry out a thorough investigation into these projects.”
The probe is expected to scrutinize the funding, project execution, and compliance with due process in the development of the two facilities, which are among the flagship investments of the Obaseki-led administration.
