The Ibrede Grammar School Old Students Association (IGSOSA) has reiterated its commitment to the revival and sustainable development of its alma mater, Ibrede Grammar School, following the successful hosting of its Second Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 28, 2025, in Ibrede, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The meeting, which attracted over 150 old students from across the world, was held at the country home of Mr. Sunny Udogu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), and served as a platform for reflection, reunion, and renewed commitment to the school’s future.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sunny Udogu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, described the AGM as evidence that Ibrede Grammar School remains deeply rooted in the hearts of its alumni. He praised members for their loyalty and growing sense of responsibility toward the institution.

“Ibrede Grammar School gave us a foundation. What we give back will determine its future,” Udogu said, urging old students to support the school through infrastructure development, scholarships, mentoring, and active participation in association activities.

He commended the current executive committee for stabilizing the association and noted increased interest from younger alumni, stressing that sustainable progress requires collective effort beyond social media engagement.

Delivering an address on behalf of the association’s leadership, Mr. Ubiomo Iruke, Chairman of IGSOSA, likened the association’s journey to a ship navigating challenging waters, noting that resilience and unity had sustained its progress.

Iruke revealed that when the current leadership assumed office, the school lacked a functional building. He credited the Board of Trustees, particularly Mr. Sunny Udogu, for initiating efforts that brought attention to the school’s deteriorated state.

He also acknowledged the Delta State Government, through Hon. Emeka Osamuta, member representing Ndokwa East in the Delta State House of Assembly, for facilitating the renovation of a block of six classrooms, which has been designated as a skill acquisition centre.

However, Iruke noted that the intervention was insufficient to meet the school’s needs and appealed for further support from government agencies, private organizations, and individuals to rehabilitate additional classroom blocks, construct science laboratories, and renovate the administrative block.

Among the association’s proposed initiatives are quarterly online general meetings, renovation of the staff room, introduction of an Academic Excellence Award for outstanding students, and expanded scholarship support. According to Iruke, the first set of scholarship beneficiaries will be announced during the school’s next inter-house sports competition.

Highlighting achievements recorded so far, Iruke listed increased membership strength, the successful organization of the school’s first inter-house sports competition in years, donation of trophies, customized notebooks and pens, and the provision of football jerseys for the school team.

He acknowledged the support of corporate bodies and individuals, including Micura Services Limited, Michael Emetomo Obi Foundation, Roma Communications, and several families who sponsored houses and donated materials to the school.

A major highlight of the AGM was the inauguration of the IGSOSA Home Branch, under the leadership of Hon. Reuben Okaroh, as well as the formal adoption of the association’s constitution.

The event, which doubled as a reunion, was attended by respected senior old students, including Mr. Michael Eya and Mr. Jacob Omohovie, and featured moments of camaraderie, reflection, and celebration.

Participants expressed optimism that the renewed unity and strategic planning within IGSOSA would translate into tangible improvements at Ibrede Grammar School as it approaches its Golden Jubilee.
