The Kano State Government has set aside N1.5 billion for a mass wedding programme that will benefit 1,500 couples across the state as part of efforts to promote marriage and strengthen family values.

The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that the initiative fulfills a campaign promise made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to support prospective couples and encourage stable family life.

According to Daurawa, all intending couples are currently undergoing compulsory medical examinations, including tests for HIV, hepatitis, genotype compatibility and pregnancy, to ensure healthy and sustainable marriages.

He explained that each couple will receive a support package valued at N1 million, consisting of essential household items such as beds, mattresses, bed sheets, pillows, cupboards and foodstuffs to help them establish their new homes.

In addition, each bride will be provided with N100,000 as seed capital to start a small business, while each groom will receive N100,000 to assist with marriage dowry expenses.

Daurawa said preparations for the mass wedding have been concluded, adding that the Hisbah Board is awaiting Governor Yusuf’s approval and announcement of the official date for the ceremony.

The programme is expected to provide financial relief for many young couples while promoting social welfare and family stability across Kano State.
