The Edo State Government has called on residents, religious leaders and faith-based organizations across the state to participate in a 14-day fasting and prayer programme aimed at seeking God’s continuous peace, protection and progress for Edo State.
The invitation was made by the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel and Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, who urged Edolites to unite in prayer for the well-being and development of the state.
According to Apostle Azekhumen, the spiritual exercise will run from June 1 to June 14, 2026, with participants expected to observe fasting daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
He said the programme is being organized to seek divine guidance, peace and prosperity for Edo State and its people, adding that Governor Monday Okpebholo is fully supportive of the initiative.
“Join His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, as we seek God’s continuous peace, protection and progress for our beloved state,” the cleric stated.
Apostle Azekhumen noted that the prayer programme is open to all religious bodies, clergy and religious-conscious residents irrespective of their faith backgrounds, emphasizing the need for collective prayers for the state.
He further encouraged those who are physically able to participate in a sectional dry fasting throughout the 14-day period, while advising individuals with health challenges or physical limitations to participate according to their strength and capacity.
The cleric expressed confidence that the spiritual exercise would contribute significantly to sustaining peace, strengthening unity and advancing development across Edo State.
He also cited several biblical passages, including Esther 4:16, Matthew 17:21, Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 26:3, John 14:27, 2 Thessalonians 3:16 and Psalm 29:11, as the scriptural foundation for the prayer initiative.
Apostle Azekhumen called on all residents to support the programme through active participation and prayers, stressing that the collective commitment of citizens would help secure a more peaceful and prosperous future for the state.
