Speaker Guwor Receives Award for Contributions to Education

In a colourful ceremony marked by an atmosphere of conviviality and celebration, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor was honoured by the University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the growth and development of the institution.

 

Rt Hon Guwor received the distinguished award from the University’s Management alongside seventeen other notable Nigerians, including the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, immediate past Governor of the state, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Founder of Zenith Bank PLC, Jim Ovia and the Chairman, Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Barr Chiedu Ebei.

 

The award presentation to Mr Speaker, which took place during the maiden convocation of the five-year-old institution, drew an array of dignitaries across all walks of life, including top government officials, members of the academic community, traditional rulers, political office holders, students, and friends of the University.

The atmosphere was one of joy and seamless fulfillment as the Speaker walked majestically to the stage amid applause to receive the prestigious honour from the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Stella Chiemeke.

 

In a citation, the University extolled the 46-year-old Speaker for his unwavering commitment to educational advancement and legislative support that has significantly enhanced the institution’s expansion and academic excellence.

 

According to the university management, Guwor, who was two weeks ago, precisely on February 9, 2026, elected Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, played a pivotal role in facilitating policies and interventions that strengthened structural framework necessary for the university’s growth.

 

Resplendent in white native attire, with a black hat to match that created a clear cultural identity as a Niger Deltan, the amiable legislator, whose rising profile in all shades of human endeavours has been a huge boost to the younger generation, picked up the award in a manner that showed great level of innermost satisfaction for the honour done him by the University.

Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, described his Principal as “a visionary leader and dependable partner in progress in all ramifications,” noting that his unquenching appetite for good governance and development had positively impacted on the society.

 

Nwaeke said the award was a well-deserved recognition of purposeful leadership and selfless service.

 

He stated that Speaker Guwor has consistently demonstrated passion for educational development and institutional growth, adding that the recognition by the University of Delta, Agbor is a testament to the far-reaching impact of his contributions in the sector.

According to Nwaeke, “This award is not just a personal honour to Mr Speaker but a validation of his dedication to advancing education in Delta State and beyond. In Warri South West Constituency where he represents, his initiatives and advocacy have created meaningful opportunities for growth in the education system and youth development”.

 

The Chief Press Secretary further assured that the Speaker would remain steadfast in championing policies that promote academic excellence and infrastructural development across education institutions in the state.

 

The award presentations were a major highlight of the convocation ceremony.
