Johannes Lehne, Germany’s deputy head of mission in Nigeria, has disclosed that the $2.3 billion Siemens power agreement between Nigeria and Germany remained largely inactive until it was revived by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Lehne made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking at the Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) in Lagos.
According to him, the bilateral partnership in Nigeria’s power sector had experienced a prolonged lull before regaining traction under the current government. He noted that renewed political will and engagement from both sides have helped restore momentum to the landmark energy deal.
The Siemens power project, valued at $2.3 billion, is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure through upgrades in transmission and distribution networks, with the broader goal of improving power supply across the country.
Lehne’s comments suggest growing confidence in the revitalised collaboration, as both nations seek to deepen energy cooperation and address Nigeria’s longstanding electricity challenges.
