The sermon 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡’𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫.

Ultimately, the source functions as spiritual instruction, urging readers to repent of secret sins and live in honesty, righteousness, and fear of God to experience ongoing revival and avoid eternal punishment.

1. 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬

The multitude of believers were united in heart and soul, and their selfless sharing was a temporary, voluntary response to immediate needs, not a compulsory doctrine.

The unity of heart and spirit led to a great revival. Those who possessed lands sold them willingly to meet the needs of those who lacked, and the result was that none of them lacked anything. The communal practice itself was not a permanent doctrine.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐲

The giving instilled absolute trust between the members and the apostles, promoting transparency and fellowship. Even differences in speech (dialects) did not lead to division or discrimination.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬

Barnabas (Joses), a Levite, sold his land, believing the Lord Himself was his portion. His selfless giving of time, resources, and even willingness to share leadership led to his divine promotion. God recognises and promotes selfless and loving acts, such as helping the aged and sponsoring needy students.

2. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

Ananias and Sapphira’s sin was seeking human recognition over God’s approval, leading to sudden judgment.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧-𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐬

Ananias sought recognition like Barnabas, but his desire led to a deception conceived, nurtured, and agreed together with his wife. Peter, using the gift of revelation, exposed the lie, declaring that lying to the Holy Ghost is lying to God. The purpose of spiritual gifts, including discernment, is to protect the purity of the church.

Lies diminish a person’s worth, requiring constant memory and eventually leading to exposure. Death is separation from God, and every lie brings that separation. Those who love and tell lies will remain outside God’s kingdom. Ananias chose to defend his lie to protect his reputation, costing him his life.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭-𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐲

Those who lie to the Holy Ghost will be removed from the book of life and face eternal punishment in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. This includes those who lie due to fear or unbelief. The sudden judgment on Ananias and Sapphira, witnessed by the church, was a call to godly fear.

3. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭-𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

The judgment instilled a great fear that led the early church to humble reflection and continued revival.

𝐆𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭-𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡

Godly fear produces reverence toward God and preserves the trusted character. This fear is evident in believers who do not speak carelessly or live in deceit.

𝐆𝐨𝐝-𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐧 𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭-𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

When sin was exposed and dealt with, genuine conversion increased, the power of God was greatly manifested, and revival continued. The manifestation of God’s judgments fills the heart with holy fear and reverence.

𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐝-𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐫

The power of God was so mighty that even the shadow of Peter brought healing, showing the abundance of miracles that follow genuine holiness and the fear of the Lord. The healing and deliverance manifested through the early church continue through righteous and holy living in the fear of God.
